wtf is hauntwares anyway

Hi - I’m Sloane.

I’m an illustrator and graphic designer. Before starting Hauntwares, I had been working with a fitness company doing marketing and design. In the fall of 2020, I lost that gig due to the COVID pandemic. This is a familiar story by now, but I’m incredibly lucky, in that I had the opportunity to take that disadvantage and start my own business.

I’d been making clothing for myself for a while before that, because I wanted to make shirts I wanted to wear and wasn’t finding them in other places. So many t-shirt webstores make terrible clothes with awful, clip-art looking designs on horrible products that fall apart in a week. Or they’ll have a cool design but NOT PRINT IT ON BLACK - who does that??

So I decided to start all this. Right now Hauntwares is still small, and everything here is done by me - design, illustration, this site, social media - while using space-age web platforms for manufacturing and shipping. Hauntwares products are the same quality as bigger, premium retailers because I work with the same production companies and use the same products.

I made Hauntwares with one goal:

To make kick-ass clothing, accessories and other stuff to enhance your spooky lifestyle. I like the same fun crap you do - monsters, retro Halloween, 80’s and 90’s horror movies, vampires, cryptids, ghouls and ghosts - you know what I mean! Stuff you can wear around the house as well as out to the bar or club and get lavished with compliments. Unique art based on my favorite horror culture concepts.

Hauntwares really started years ago

New England in the Fall, late October - sitting on the living room floor in 1987 during a rainy weekend, making Bad-To-The-Bone give my other action figures a hard time, while I thought about what costume I’d wear for the class Halloween party. That’s the kind of vibe I want to get across in my designs. I love spooky shit, and make stuff I hope other people like, too.

Hauntwares is proudly a Massachusetts company

Salem MA, Cthulhu country, Mt. Auburn Cemetery - you’ll see a lot of that influence in my stuff. I really believe this is the spookiest place in the world, but in the most fun way possible. I have tons of hometown pride, which is why so many of my designs have the “Hauntwares - Boston - Salem MA” HQ tag. I spend weekends at Salem Willows, wandering around the old buildings of Back Bay or going to club nights in Central Square.

My passion is making designs I’d want to own myself, so my passion goes into all my wearable art. I wear my own stuff!

Hauntwares products are printed on premium items

Shirts that aren’t cheapo, $5 tees that disintegrate after a handful of washings. I picked the clothes we print on because they’re what I wear myself. They cost more than flash-sale, shirt-of-the-day sites but they’ll last a lot longer and look good for longer. That goes for everything in the shop.

I hope you like what you see and look forward to sending you some Hauntwares!
